Today is the annual Take Your Child to Learn How to Build Someone Else’s Dream Day.
Undoubtedly, millions of parents have taken their kids to work today where the youngsters were either bored out of their minds, or entertained with more indoctrinating drivel regarding what schools teach is the keys to success in the American economy.
Kids are told that in order to be a success, they have to go into debt to get a college degree, then go to work for a subsistence salary and two whole weeks off every year to do whatever they please, as long as they bring their cell phones with them in case someone at the office has a question that just can’t wait.
The RV and other industries are screaming for technicians.
Home builders and remodelers are overwhelmed with so many work requests that it is often half a year before they can take on another project.
Manufacturers can’t find enough skilled craftspeople to operate equipment or weld parts.
Yet, society continues to downplay the critical shortage of skilled trades to prop up the broken system designed to keep people in financial bondage their entire lives.
Since many Starbucks coffee makers have colleges degrees, it’s no longer imperative that a teenager take out $100,000 in loans just to pay for a bachelor’s degree.
Today, in order to be truly “competitive” in the world economy, people need masters degrees and doctorates.
So as the kids return from a fun day at mom and dad’s place of employment, here are some conversation starters for the dinner table tonight:
- Explain how loyalty to a company really matters to their success.
- Ask how the youngsters will respond when their job is taken away and given to someone even younger who is willing to work for less money?
- Describe how they are impacted when factories or offices close and corporations open new locations oversees.
- Explain how office politics and mindless corporate policies really help employees look forward to coming to work every day.
- Show the kids how pay charts work and how a worker’s lifestyle is determined by a committee or greedy boss who decided months ago that everyone would get an across-the-board 3% raise whether they worked hard or not.
- Absolutely explain how as “valuable team members” they get to share in the company’s profits ever after year.
- Explain why truly exceptional workers might be granted another 1.5 to 2% raise based on “performance.”
- Teach the kids how mergers and acquisitions allow two people with the same job and responsibilities to compete for the one remaining job.
- Explain why workers need permission to leave an hour or two early, even if the work is done.
- Be sure to show them the giant workaround for extra time off by claiming they need a cigarette in order to justify an extra 10 minute break every hour — or an extra 40 days of paid vacation per year.
- Explain the benefits of leaving home and driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic in order to sit in a cubicle to use someone else’s computer.
- Take a pay stub and show them how much money is deducted for socialist security and payroll taxes every week, but augment the lesson by showing how people who work illegally don’t have to pay any of that.
- Describe how the costs affiliated with transportation, child care, parking, lunches, etc., eat away at the paycheck to the point that a family’s second income generally amounts to less than $1,000 per month.
When the realities of working today are presented to kids, be sure to take them out for ice cream, so their nightmares tonight don’t awaken you from yours.
