I don’t know of these people are Christians or not, but they are changing lives in a meaningful way.
For more than 20 years. the Students Rising Above (SRA) non-profit, co-founded by former KPIX 5 news anchor Wendy Tokuda, has provided underserved students with financial assistance, college prep, internships, career counseling and more, CBS San Francisco reported.
Now, the non-profit has announced another milestone. Anonymous donors have stepped forward with a gift that will change the lives of approximately 400 SRA graduates – providing up to $8 million to pay off their college debt.
The students didn’t incur the debt to “buy stuff,” but rather to invest in their futures. They bought wisdom, which the Bible encourages us to do in Proverbs 23:23, which says, “Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well.”
We have all seen examples of young people crushed by the weight of student loan debt. Today, there are 400 young adults who have breathing room to start their lives.
While not many people have $8 million to give away, I know we can make a tremendous impact on a single mom or a children growing up with a dad with a well-timed gift of a $100 to pay for school fees or help cover the cost for summer camp.
Whether it’s $100 or $8 million, that’s making an impact on someone’s life and, hopefully, the students will pay remember the gift from generous benefactors and “pay it forward” once they are established in their careers.
