Eldredge: Seize the moment

Author and speaker John Eldredge encourages Christians to seize the moment afforded by the unfortunate COVID-19 situation — and the window is limited.

He has penned dozens of books, many of which are my personal favorites, like Wild at Heart.

In a recent blog post on his Ransomed Heart website, he wrote, “Ever since the pandemic broke out (probably the most significant event of our era), the world has been reaching for solid ground—medically, economically, politically, socially. And it has evaded us.

“We don’t know what recovery will look like, or when it will come. We don’t know about the potential for another “wave” of the virus, or the timing of vaccines. We don’t know what the economy will really do.

“Uncertainty has been the consistent factor in all of this. It’s almost as if God has kept things veiled, for his own purposes.

“Whatever else Jesus is up to right now, this pandemic and all of the political, economic and social upheaval is a “shaking” the world very much needed. And it presents to us an incredible Gospel opportunity…for a window of time.”

He outlines some practical things that people can do to encourage people who are looking for answers and directions.

“The most important thing we can do, THE opportunity before the church right now is this Gospel moment. It’s not the “reset” of a slower pace of life; it’s not a change in political leadership. That’s not the main thing in God’s mind. It is the eternal destiny of human souls,” John wrote.

No, God did not cause the COVID-19 situation. His opponent comes to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10). But, God will certainly use it to advance his kingdom and bring glory to himself.
