Proud to be a DODO
This is something I have wanted to do for YEARS and promised my daughters that I would launch it someday. The day has finally arrived! My next big project will be the development of a community, or tribe, for dads of daughters.
As a DODO — Dad of Daughters Only — of three now grown women, and a grandfather to four little lasses, I speak fluent female and have a passion for helping men, young and old, embrace the challenges they face in transforming girls into women and guiding them for the rest of their lives.
We’ll be irreverent at times. After all, if you can’t laugh at all the wackiness associated with being a dad of daughters, dude, you’re going to be in over your head very soon!
But, we’ll be serious, too. Whether by birth or marriage, dads of daughters have been deployed behind enemy lines (think culture) to protect and empower a precious resource.
This group will feature unique online content written by dads for dads. My website will soon open at dododads.com. There, you’ll find news from the trenches about real DODOs who are making a difference in their daughters’ lives. I’m developing some fun bumper stickers and posters as well.
I’ll even be publishing a weekly newsletter, the DODO Digest, to brighten the days of beleaguered fathers.
Finally, I’m planning a series of books and online courses to train men for the varied challenges they face from the day they welcome a screaming girl into the world, through the slamming of many doors as a teenager, and through that dreaded father-daughter dance on her wedding day.
Someday another man may sweep your daughter off her feet and steal her away to become his wife. But one thing is for certain; her heart will always belong to her first love – Daddy.
So, let’s have some fun together. Join us today – the International Affiliation of Men Admired as Dads of Daughters Only (IAMADODO). I don’t know about you, but I’m proud to be a DODO.
